DELHI – The Indian airline IndiGo received it’s 200th plane last friday. The plane is an Airbus A320NEO and is registrered as VT-IZI. For the fast growing airline it is the 62th A320NEO.
The 200th plane was delivered last friday together with another A320NEO, the 201th aircraft for IndiGo. The airline has another 126 A320’s and 12 ATR-72’s in their fleet.
IndiGo is one of world’s fastest growing low cost carriers. According to the Indian Civil Aviaton Authority the airline ownes 43% of the Indian market. To respond to the growing Indian market, the airline still has 220 A320NEO’s and 40 ATR-72’s on order. Added to that is the rumour that the airline wants to start long haul operations soon by ordering 50 A330NEO’s.
Altough the indian market is growing rapidly, the airlines are struggling to stay profitable. The state owned Air India is already for sale and Jet Airways, is looking for financial support to start a recovery plan. IndiGo was one of the few airlines which started this year with profits. However, after the first two quarters the airline started to lose money as well.
